3. Put the right pressure in your tires.

  • You can significantly reduce the damage of your soil by using the correct pressure.
  • Ground contact pressure is directly related to tire pressure. An over-inflated tire has a smaller footprint, greater contact pressure and thus a greater soil compaction.

Advantages of correct pressure:

  • Reduced soil compaction
  • Longer tread life
  • Less irregular tread wear
  • Improved traction and flotation
  • Optimum fuel consumption
  • Longer casing life

Excessive tire slip creates resistance to motion, causes soil “smearing” and greatly increases soil compaction

Top 5 ways to reduce your soil compaction with tires:

  • Use Radial Tires
  • Use the widest and largest tire size possible (large profile/large volume) or use duals/triples to increase the contact patch on the ground and minimize the air pressure
  • Use the proper pressure
  • Check tire pressure regularly and each time you change application, equipment…
  • Use wide radial Tires on your implements too (tankers, carts, implements can cause more compaction than tractors).
