"Michelin tires have eliminated most all of the problems we had while
remaining at a competitive price."
"We are a harvest operation of Bolthouse Farms and use highly specialized Harvesters
and Tractors to harvest about 975,000 tons of carrots each year. We harvest
year around in varied soil conditions and need good service ability from our
tires. Having to service unreliable tires has been a battle we have fought for
over 16 years. We shopped around and tired every brand out there. We had a lot
of costly tire slippage before switching to Michelin radials. We move equipment
every day and a half and do a lot of roading which is detrimental to tires.
At times we make 60-70 mile moves and a blow out cost us money! During the 20
months we have been using the Michelin 620/70 R 38s, they have noticeably cut our
operating and down time. They definitely hold up well. We were previously using
a well know bias brand and some of them would fail after only 10 hours. The
Michelin 620s on the harvesters are reliable, can hold the weight and have good
traction in wet and dry conditions. Some of our 620s have 5000 to 6000 hours.
Previous tires were 2000-3500 hours.
I would always fear a blowout when I used bias-ply tires. Now, a blown tire is the
exception to the rule. Michelin tires have eliminated most all of the problems
we had while remaining at a competitive price. They clean better, have better
flotation in the field and are constantly more reliable. In the last 20 months
we have made around 30 service calls in different areas. Only one was made on a
Michelin and it was our fault - we ran the tire at too low psi.
There was an instance where we had two harvesters out working. One was equipped with
Michelins and the other the competitor’s bias-ply tire. Conditions were wet and
while the Michelins performed well, the other machine had to be moved out. So
far we have changed half our machines over to Michelin radials. As the other
tires wear out they will be switched to Michelin radials as well. We have
switched all 13 harvesters to Michelins......52 total tires.
If you are currently using bias tires, I highly recommend you switch to Michelin
radials. They are superior compared to competitors’ radials too."
