"In our industry, getting the life out of our equipment is very difficult. We are hard on our machinery and making sure it is able to hold up to the punishment we put it through is important. We also have to worry about being efficient in order to stay in business. Having all the pieces to the puzzle is a big deal. We need to be able to get the lowest cost per hour from our machinery. Our investments should be calculated and that is exactly why we work with Michelin XM28 tires. They hold up to the punishment and perform the way we need tires to perform. That is a big key to staying on top of the game.

We concentrate on getting a tire that is very durable and has a longer useable life. We also need a tire that has the traction that can get through some of our rough conditions.

The soil we work in is very abrasive to tires. There is a high concentration of sand and clay, which would tear tires up constantly. Our old tires would often separate and air bubbles would form on the sidewalls causing them to fail. Since putting Michelin tires on our tractor, we haven't had one problem with tire failures. They really hold up. When we were running other tire brands during a 3,000-hour time period, we had three of the eight tires on a tractor fail. It usually takes a half-day to replace one of these tires, so not having a single Michelin tire fail on this 4WD tractor has really been a bonus for us. We have eliminated our downtime on this machine.

We have also noticed that the XM28 are exceptional in terms of traction. We experimented with a radar gun to judge our improvements in slippage with the Michelin tires. Compared to the same machine with competitor tires, the Michelin tires had 2% less slippage. We definitely need this improved traction when hauling the material to our dumping site.
